Senoia has a new top cop on the beat.

Mayor Dianne Cleveland announced this week the hiring of Dan Cannarella to replace Police Chief Julian Crowder, who is leaving the area to help take care of relatives in Florida.

Cannarella has served as a police chief in Porterdale, Ga. and has been in law enforcement for several years, said Cleveland.

Prior to his law enforcement career, the new police chief was an anesthesiologist at Emory Hospital.

"He's very well-educated and exactly what we were looking for," Cleveland said.

Cannarella has been is Senoia since last week training, and Cleveland said the response has been favorable from Crowder and the rest of the police force.

The new police chief is busy selling his home in DeKalb County, since one of the requirements for the chief is to live in the city.

Cannarella will make $33,500 as chief.
