Paving issue proves perplexing

The prickly issue of paving a portion of Quarters Road is back on the Fayette County Commission's agenda for Thursday night.

For the third time in the last few months, Dan Hudson is asking the board to pave the portion between High Grove and Alexander Ware Way.

Hudson previously explained all the property owners on that portion of the road wanted it paved because of the dust levels of the road and also safety concerns.

"It's not getting any better. The traffic is increasing daily," he said.

During the last discussion, Commissioner Linda Wells said she had issues with Hudson's request.

"I have a problem with people who move to a nuisance. I'm afraid we're creating a hazard by just paving that part,' she said.

While Commission Chairman Greg Dunn's preference would be to pave the entire road, he said the county had to be careful.

"I don't want to do it if all the residents don't want it," he said.

During the last discussion, the county staff was instructed to do a survey of the road to find the exact center and right of way. Public works director Lee Hearn said if the entire road was paved, thousands of trees would have to be cut down.

The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at the Fayette County Administrative Complex.
