Fayette's circuit churches alive and well

Fayette County is privileged to have the remaining circuit churches in the area as they were declared intact by the United Methodist North Georgia Conference held in June.

The Rev. Earl F. Dabney, who has shepherded them for the past 10 years, has been reappointed.

The churches include Merrill Chapel United Methodist, 430 South Jeff Davis Drive, Fayetteville; New Hope United Methodist, Weldon Road, Inman Community; and Hartford United Methodist Church, 202 Padgett Road, Starr's Mill.

This past Sunday was Youth Day and members of the circuit met at Hartford UMC. The choir consisted of youngsters from 5 to 18.

The Rev. Dabney spoke on the subject of faith and mentioned the various ways of responding in our daily lives to faith. When entering the armed forces, we agree to uphold the freedom of the United States; when entering the Scouting program, we promise to honor and obey; when joining any service club we promise to be loyal to its works, and when marrying, we say "I do," promising to love and obey, he said.

Using verses from Genesis, the Rev. Dabney spoke about God's charge to Abraham to gather up his household and start walking until God said to stop. Abraham did not grumble but was obedient and had faith God knew what He was doing.

"God does not lead you on a wild goose chase," he said.

"It's not only important to have faith," he added. "You must put action with it. Sitting quietly with your hands folded, waiting for something to happen, is not exhibiting your faith.

"If I am going down in a plane," he concluded, "I will be going down in faith in Jesus."
