Land purchase to expand PTC's Falcon Field awaiting second appraisal, other requirements By JOHN
MUNFORD
A second appraisal, required by federal guidelines, is being conducted on the 23.93 acres of property that Falcon Field officials plan to purchase so the airport has room to grow in the future. The $1 million plus in funds will come from the Federal Aviation Administration once the airport's offer on the property is accepted, according to Airport Manager Jim Savage. The grant was secured partially through the efforts of U.S. Rep. Mac Collins. The land, which is to the south and east of Falcon Field, is owned by Peachtree City Holdings, a subsidiary of Pathway Communities. The transaction will also include a portion of Stallings Road, which is a gravel road that traverses the southern boundary of the property and, when paved, will connect to a new hangar area that has recently been completed. Stallings Road also leads to one of Peachtree City's sewage treatment plants, which is operated by the city's Water and Sewer Authority. In addition to the second appraisal, the FAA also requires an environmental study of the area in addition to a regular title search of the property's ownership history, Savage said. "We can't make an offer without all those things in place," Savage said, explaining that the money from the FAA won't be released until an offer is accepted by the landowner. The first appraisal came in at $1.075 million for the property, Savage said. Officials have lauded Pathway Communities officials for working with the airport and trying to reserve that land, which is seen as key to the airport's future. Without this purchase, Falcon Field would be "landlocked" without a place to expand.
