Local students represent Clayton State University at USG Chancellor's Inauguration

Morrow, Ga. Six Clayton State students attended the inauguration of Dr. Thomas C. Meredith, the 10th chancellor of the University System of Georgia (USG), in a ceremony held June 12 in the State Capitol's House of Representatives Chamber.

Andreas "Andy" Bloch, Morrow; Gerald Heavens, Riverdale; Scott Hughes, Hampton; Cora Johnson, Stockbridge; Chris Miller, Fayetteville; and Raechel Nebergall, Tyrone, served as ushers and greeters at the inaugural ceremony.

"Being present at such an important event is one of many ways to spread the existence of our University, and the active role that Clayton State plays within the University System of Georgia," says Bloch, student orientation leader (SOL) and an ambassador for the Clayton State Office of Recruitment. "One starts to mingle with other school representatives and exchanges ideas, comments and knowledge."

"I have devoted a lot of hard work and time to Clayton State, and believe that success comes, in part, from the type of involvement that one has in their investments," says Miller, a participant in the Honors program and a former SOL. "It is important for Clayton State students to make a presence at public events so to give recognition to our students at the University."

"Being picked to represent my University, at any event, is a reward to me," says Heavens, SOL and Recruitment ambassador. "I am proud to be a student at Clayton State, and I gladly accept the opportunity to represent the school in any way."

"We presented ourselves to the schools and the well-respected officials at the inauguration as to what type of character we have at Clayton State," says SOL Hughes,.

Dr. Thomas C. Meredith is the former chancellor for the University of Alabama System. Now, as chancellor of the University System of Georgia, Meredith is responsible for the USG's 34 public colleges and universities.
