Desmond joins GBI Vernon M. Keenan, acting director of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, has announced the appointment of Michael Desmond as a special agent with the GBI regional investigative office in Perry. As a special agent, Desmond is responsible for assisting local law enforcement agencies with general investigations. Desmond began his law enforcement career in 1995 as a communications officer with the Valdosta State University Police Department. He remained with the office three years until taking a position as a police officer with the Valdosta Police Department. He was hired by the GBI in February of this year and spent 16 weeks in Basic Agent School. He graduated from that program June 10. Desmond is a 1994 graduate of McIntosh High School and has a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Valdosta State University. He is also a member of the International Association of Criminal Investigators. Michael is the son of Ed Desmond and Leslie Dukes of Peachtree City.
