After two public hearings this month in Brooks concerning the town budget, it was passed at the regular council meeting June 17.

The total operating budget was $110,300, plus $30,000 to operate the library, for a total of $140,300. A reserve fund for capital improvements was carried over in the amount of $42,000.

The Brooks Water Department will be operating under a budge amount of $44,310 and the town cemetery has a budget amount of $13,700.

The council voted to allow members of the LaFayette McLaws, Son of Confederate Veterans, to maintain the old city cemetery. Camp commander, Scott Gilbert, also asked that the camp be allowed to post a sign to that effect.

Town citizen Paul White spoke about the problems of neighbor dogs coming onto his property, frightening his own family and visitors. The council voted to look into a nuisance ordnance and will check with other municipalities to obtain ideas for one.

The next council meeting will be July 15.
