Oglethorpe graduation

ATLANTA Approximately 280 students were recipients of bachelor of arts, bachelor of science, bachelor of business administration, master of arts, and master of business administration degrees at Oglethorpe University's 2002 commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 1, on the Academic Quadrangle of the Peachtree Road campus.

Sam Pickering, author and model for the teacher in the movie "Dead Poets Society," delivered the commencement address and received an honorary Doctor of Letters degree.

Providing a superior education in the liberal arts, Oglethorpe University is located in the heart of Brookhaven, just north of Buckhead. The university is a highly selective, independent, co-educational institution that enrolls approximately 1,200 students each year. Oglethorpe's students represent the best of their graduating classes, with an average GPA above 3.6, and average SAT above 1,200. Following graduation, students often go on to the best graduate schools in the nation. Recent placements include Cambridge, Columbia, Duke, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Princeton and Yale Universities.

The following local students were among the 2002 graduates:

Carla Marie Caetano of Peachtree City. Caetano graduated with a bachelor's degree in Communications.

Shanna Leigh Hobson of Peachtree City. Hobson is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Hobson and graduated with a bachelor's degree in English. Hobson attended McIntosh High School.

Clint Jeffrey Harrison of Sharpsburg. Harrison is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Bruce Harrison and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. Harrison attended East Coweta High School.

Steven Alexandre Loureiro of Sharpburg. Loureiro is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Frank Loureiro and graduated with a bachelor's degree in History.
