Board picks new principals The Coweta County Board of Education approved two new school principals during its June 11 meeting, in action following executive session. Sandra Hinton was approved as principal of Eastside Elementary School. She replaces Chris Scott, who is leaving the Eastside post to become Director of Personnel for the Coweta County School System. Hinton comes to Coweta from Whitesburg Elementary School in Carroll County, where she has served as principal for seven years. She has 23 years of educational and leadership experience, and earned her B.S. degree in early childhood education from Alabama State University in Montgomery, her master's degree from LaGrange College, and her educational specialist degree from Troy State University. Superintendent Peggy Connell and the board convened a committee of Eastside parents, citizens, teachers and employees to advise the Superintendent on choosing a new principal for the school. Dr. Connell said she has worked with a similar "team interviewing" concept for hiring new administrators in the past with great success, and the process is similar to the one school councils will use when faced with a similar situation. The committee was made up of Assistant Principal Nancy Tinsely, parent representative Cheri Babb, community representatives, an Eastside teachers' representative, and school staff representatives, and interviewed several candidates before making their recommendation to Dr. Connell. The board also approved Dr. Kiawana Kennedy as principal of Winston Dowdell Academy. She replaces Sylvia Hooker, who is leaving Winston Dowdell to serve as a coordinator for the Georgia Leadership Institute for School Improvement's core leadership workshops. Dr. Kennedy comes to Coweta from Cobb County Schools, where she has served as an assistant principal at Griffin Middle School. She has 11 years experience in education and leadership, and earned her B.S. degree in middle grades education from West Georgia College, her master's in administration and supervision from West Georgia College, her Ed.S from the State University of West Georgia, and her Ed.D in educational leadership from the University of Georgia. Also on June 11, the board approved a number of Assistant Principal positions. Diane Epperly, Thomas Crossroads Elementary, goes to Maggie Brown Pre-Kindergarten School; Nancy Cook, Northgate High School, goes to Smokey Road Middle; Rebecca Darrah, Canongate Elementary, goes to Eastside Elementary; Monica Hughes, Canongate Elementary, goes to Willis Road; Laurie Jackson,Newnan High School, goes to Arnall Middle; P.
