Cub Scouts get a Presidential surprise The Cub Scouts of Pack 42 chartered through St. George Catholic Church on Roscoe Road in Newnan received a letter from President George W. Bush. The scouts wrote to the President "Get Well America" letters after 9-11. The letter was addressed to the Cub Scout Pack 42. "Thank you for writing and sharing your thoughts and feelings with me about the tragic events of September 11, 2001. "I was deeply touched by your concern for those who lost their lives or were injured, and for their families and friends. "Your message tells me that you are caring and thoughtful. During these difficult times, I am encouraged by your kindness and compassion for others. "Mrs. Bush joins me in sending our warm wishes to you. God bless you. "Sincerely, George W. Bush." The Cub Scouts who wrote the letters were all given a copy to keep. Scout leader Verna Funk reread the boys' letters and reminded the boys to keep America in their prayers, and had the cubs recite the Cub Scout pledge: "I, promise to do my best, to do my duty to God and my country, to help other people and to obey the law of the pack." "That's what it is all about, God and country," Funk said.
