Subdivisions and convenience stores top Planning Commission agenda
By JOHN
THOMPSON
Residents attending Thursday night's Fayette County Planning Commission meeting may want to bring a sleeping bag. With its longest agenda in several months, the Planning Commission is expected to consider 10 requests that could bring in more than 140 new homes, two convenience stores and additional retail space. The biggest residential request comes from Joan Busey, who wants to develop 148 acres on Helmer Road into a subdivision. Busey wants the zoning changed from Agricultural Residential and a five-acre minimum lot size to R-40, which allows one-acre home sites. Busey wants to build 102 homes on the site. On the commercial side, Chuck Golden wants to develop a 1.6 acre site on Ga. Highway 54 east as a convenience store and gas station. He wants to zoning changed on his property from Commercial-Highway Conditional to Commercial-Highway. Fayette Baptist Church also wants a 6.8 acre site it owns at Seay Road and Ga. Highway 92 south from Agricultural Residential to Commercial-Highway to build a convenience store, gas station and retail shops. The church is represented by THG Properties in Peachtree City. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at the Fayette County Administrative Complex.
