PTC Council to buy Wynnmeade entrance for cart bridge? By JOHN MUNFORD
Peachtree City officials plan to buy 5.1 acres of vacant land at the former entrance to the Wynnmeade subdivision to use for recreation purposes and install a cart path bridge across Ga. Highway 54. The City Council will consider the possible purchase at its regular meeting Thursday night. According to city documents, the agent for the property has agreed to let the city purchase it for $825,000. The land, which is two separate tracts that front on Hwy. 54 on both sides of Wynnmeade Parkway, is still zoned for residential use, but developers had sought a commercial rezoning. The land purchase will also "permanently protect it from strip commercial development and serve to enhance property values within the subdivision," according to a memo from Jim Williams, Peachtree City's director of developmental services. In other business, council is slated to select five members and two alternates to serve on the board of ethics to investigate an ethics complaint filed by former mayor Bob Lenox against Councilman Steve Rapson. Lenox accuses Rapson of voting on two matters despite having a conflict of interest due to his wife's unfair pay lawsuit that has been filed against the Development Authority of Peachtree City. Lenox questions Rapson's vote to hire a special attorney to investigate the propriety of contracts Lenox signed with the authority last year; he also questions Rapson's vote to appoint an attorney to conduct that inquiry. A public hearing on both complaints must be held no later than July 19 to comply with the requirements of the ethics ordinance. Council will also consider possible locations for a "dog park" a fenced area where pet owners would be allowed to let their dogs run around without leashes for exercise. A committee studying the issue recommends the park be built near the Kedron Multipurpose Rink.
