Senoia is looking for a new police chief.

Mayor Dianne Cleveland confirmed this week that Chief Julian Crowder will be leaving the Senoia Police Department July 8.

Crowder turned in his resignation last week, saying he's moving back to Florida to be close to his extended family.

"We're really going to miss him. He did an outstanding job," said Cleveland.

The city is currently accepting applications and hopes to find a replacement by the time Crowder leaves.

"We've gotten several applications and we want to find somebody who can work well with our existing staff,' said Cleveland.

Crowder became Senoia's chief last July, after serving as an interim chief for seven months. He was the second officer from Peachtree City to assume the top job in Senoia's Police Department.

Former Chief Ben Thomas, who resigned at the end of 2000, also worked many years in Peachtree City.
