Newnan Classical School names principal

Newnan Classical School recently named Angie Gruner as its first full-time principal. The move was made in order to continue building the teaching staff and to provide true leadership in curriculum planning for the future.

Mrs. Gruner is a 12-year resident of Coweta County and has been involved in education for over twenty years. A native of Indiana, she graduated from Taylor University, majoring in both education and special education.

After teaching first grade in Indiana, she moved to Fullerton, Calif., where she taught in private and Christian schools, as well as the Los Angeles Public School System. She and her husband, Clayton, moved to Georgia in 1990, with their son, Drew.

Mrs. Gruner was instrumental in starting Crossroads Christian School in Fayetteville, before her daughter, Emily, was born in 1992.

Over the years, Mrs. Gruner has consulted with families and schools with all types of students. "I have learned that students respond differently to different styles or methods of teaching. It is important to teach with all learning styles in mind, so you can reach all your students with the information," she said recently. "Classical education incorporates those different learning styles."

Although Mrs. Gruner has enjoyed teaching and the interaction with students, she has found that "instructing teachers how to teach, being part of a team with our staff and seeing students love to learnhave expanded my horizons and given me a new love and challenge."

Newnan Classical School is a Christ-centered school for students in kingergarten through seventh grade. It is a ministry of Christ Church of Newnan (PCA), and is located in the Immanuel Seminary building at the corner of Ga. Highway 34 and Fisher Road in Sharpsburg.
