Fayette schools dominate regional math competition
Three Fayette schools swept the Griffin RESA (Regional Educational Service Agency) Middle School Mathematics Contest. Rising Starr Middle won first place in the overall competition with Whitewater Middle and Fayette Middle taking second and third place, respectively. Additionally Kento Masuyama of Rising Starr won first place in the individual competition. Russell McCord of Fayette Middle placed second and Andrew Zheng of Rising Starr took home third place. The competition consisted of two events: an individual written test and a ciphering event in which the teams consult in order to present a team-determined response. A total of 11 schools from Spalding, Fayette, Newton, and Henry Counties participated in the May competition that was held at the University of Georgia Experiment Station in Griffin.
