Seniors can use your old cell phones

Upgrading to another cellular phone? Donate your old one to the Fulton County Office of Aging, which will give it to a needy senior citizen to call 9-1-1 in case of an emergency.

Federal law requires all cell phones to be built so anyone can call 9-1-1, even if the service is deactivated. As part of an ongoing awareness program, the Fulton County Office of Aging is using this feature to help give seniors a portable way to make a telephone callthat could save their lives. The phone's battery must be charged for the 9-1-1 call to go through.

Persons wishing to donate should take their used cell phone, battery, charger, and any instruction manuals to the nearest Fulton County senior center or facility.

For more information, call the Fulton County Office of Aging at 404-730-6000.
