Refreshments will be served at PTC's Memorial Day tribute By JOHN

Spectators at Peachtree City's Memorial Day celebration Monday morning will be served refreshments this year thanks to the generosity of local businesses. Coffee, orange juice, donuts, bagels and cream cheese will be available on a first-come, first-served basis while they last, according to organizers. The ceremony is slated to being at 7:45 a.m. at the VFW Memorial at City Hall Plaza. It will be preceded by a golf cart procession around Lake Peachtree that begins at The Gathering Place at 7:30. Citizens are encouraged to participate in the procession by decorating their golf carts in a patriotic motif. The ceremony will include music by the Air National Guard Band of the South, a military band that plays concerts worldwide. There will also be honors to the flag, the reading of the winner in the student essay contest and the unveiling of the "special surprise" that was created with memorabilia from local veterans. The keynote speaker will be Navy Chaplain George W. Pucciarelli, who was an eyewitness to the aftermath of the 1983 terrorist attack on the U.S. military in Beirut, Lebanon that killed 241 servicemen. The band will also hold a concert after the ceremony beginning at 9 a.m. This is the first year that citizens in attendance will be offered refreshments. The refreshments were made possible by donations of food or cash from several local businesses, including Dunkin' Donuts, Atlanta Bread Company, Valentino's, Continuous Forms and Checks, Arnie's Fine Wines, Radio Shack, Joseph A. Banks, Pathways Communities, Steinmart, Braelinn Krogers and the Pro Golf Shop.
