City wants speed reduced

The Senoia City Council has decided to slow down traffic on Amey Street.

Lavourgous Robinson, who lives on the residential street, told the council Monday night that his street is filled with speeders during the morning and evening rush hours.

The reason is many Southern Mills workers are using the road as a shortcut to the plant on Andrews Parkway, he said.

Robinson originally wanted the City Council to change the road to a one-way, but City Councilman Bill Wood said that really would not solve the problem.

"That only solves half the problem," he said.

Robinson said he didn't care how the problem was solved because he was just concerned for the safety of the children on the street.

He had already presented the City Council with a petition from all the adult residents who live on the street that implored the council to fix the problem.

In the end, the City Council decided to use speed bumps on the road to slow down the traffic.

City administrator Murray McAfee said he would contact Coweta County about who the county uses to install speed bumps and would report back to the city.
