The Peachtree City Library will stay open late Tuesday through Thursday to provide a haven for local high school students cramming for exams.

The library will remain open until 10:30 p.m. for students those evenings, but it closes at 9 p.m. for the general public. Students choosing to remain must have a current student ID and PINES library card.

Only the reference area will be open to assist students. One staffer will be at the circulation desk to answer phones in case of an emergency; no regular library business will be conducted after 9 p.m.

No students will be allowed inside after 9 p.m., and monitors will be stationed at the front and back doors. Students leaving the building must have their hand stamped in order to be readmitted.

When the library closes at 10:30 p.m. each night, the only exit will be through the front door. A police officer will be on hand to monitor the parking lot, according to Jill Prouty, the library's technology and training manager.

The library will also extend its regular operating hours Sunday when it closes at 6 p.m.
