BOYLAN Opening Friday About a Boy Hugh Grant stars as a rich cad in this film based on Nick Hornby's best selling novel. Grant's character pretends he is a single parent so that he can pick up single moms. Things get complicated when he befirends a boy of a woman he has no interest in. Rated PG-13. Star Wars Epsiode 2 - Attack of the Clones Anakin Skywalker is 10 years older, Jar Jar Binks is less annoying (or at least we hope he is) and the movie is hopefully as exciting and fun as the films in the original trilogy. Jimmy Smits and Christopher Lee are in this film, as are Yoda, R2D2 and Ewen McGregor as Obi Wan Kenobi. Rated PG.
Now Playing Changing Lanes Ben Affleck and Samuel L. Jackson square off in this thriller about two men pushed to the limit on a very bad day. This is now the number one thriller in America, while the number one movie is Spiderman. Rated R. High Crimes Ashley Judd plays a defense attorney who teams up with a former attorney played by Morgan Freeman to defend her husband in a military court case. Rated PG-13. Life or Something Like It Angelina Jolie plays a tv news reporter who is told by a homeless psychic that she has one week to live. She re-examines and re-evaluates her life, falls in love and, well, who knows what happens to her. I haven't seen the movie yet. I'm guessing things turn out all right though. Rated PG-13. Murder By Numbers Sandra Bullock plays an investigator trying to capture a killer or killers. The killers in this film are teenagers who think they have created a foolproof way to get away with murder. The previews are spooky and the film may be good. It better be with the big summer movies coming just around the corner. Rated R. Panic Room Jodie Foster protects her daughter and her new home from burglars in this thriller from director David Fincher. This will definitely keep your interest but it is certainly not the greatest movie ever made. Rated R. Spiderman This is a very good film. It stays true to the spirit of the comic book and the character. The performances are excellent, the direction by Sam Raimi is incredible and work on the sequel is underway. This is one you could see more than once. Rated PG-13. The New Guy DJ Qualls, the weird looking kid from "Road Trip", plays a guy that gets expelled from school, goes to jail and, upon release, goes to a new school where he is cool and the life of the party. The previews look humorous and there are several movie spoofs but this could be another stupid teen comedy that may even be too stupid for stupid teens. Rated PG-13. The Rookie Dennis Quaid stars as Jim Morris in this Disney film based on a true story. Morris made his way to the majors after a long layoff where he raised a family and coached high school baseball. This is a feel good movie and will get you misty. Rated G. The Scorpion King In last year's "The Mummy Returns" audiences saw a flashback about the origin of the Scorpion King. Now, there is a feature film about him and The Rock resumes his role as the warrior. I liked the Mummy movies but don't know if this will be as good. Rated PG-13. Unfaithful Director Adrian Lyne (Fatal Attraction, Jacob's Ladder) brings us this remake of a 1969 French film starring Richard Gere and Diane Lane. Lane's character has an affair and Gere goes insane with jealousy. This looks like an erotically charged thriller and, fortunately, that is what Lyne does best. Rated R. Also Playing A Beautiful Mind Russell Crowe stars as a John Forbes Nash, a brilliant mathmetician battling schizophrenia. This film won the Oscar for Best Picture and is quite good. Rated PG-13. Big Fat Liar Frankie Muniz, TV's Malcolm, stars in this comedy for the kids. He plays a liar who must get a movie producer to tell the truth. Rated PG. E.T. the Extra Terrestrial One of Steven Speilberg's best films returns to the big screen. This is a touching tale of a boy and his alien friend. Rated PG. Gosford Park Robert Altman directs a who's who of British actors in this film about the very wealthy and their servants. It is a murder mystery but revels more in its depiction of class struggle. There are some great performances but this film is not for everybody. Rated R. I Am Sam I saw this movie and found it to be manipulative and pandering. Sean Penn's performance was good, but how many times are we going to see an actor play a disabled person in search of an Oscar? Michelle Pfeiifer also stars in this film and she was terrible as the over worked, over stressed working mom who learns to love again. Yuk! Rated PG-13. Resident Evil Based looslely on the video game, this thriller deals with zombies. My friend said this is the perfect dollar theatre movie. I tend to agree with him so I am going to check this out. Rated R. Return To Neverland The sequel to Disney's Peter Pan. The story focuses on Wendy's children and the boy who never grew up. Rated G. Showtime Eddie Murphy and Robert DeNiro star in this comedy about cops on a reality television series. You would think that these two actors in a comedy would translate to box office gold and yet that didn't happen and it is at the dollar theater pretty soon after its initial release. Rated PG-13. Snow Dogs Cuba Gooding Jr. inherits a team of sled dogs and enters a race. This is a Disney film, so I'm sure he wins and learns many valuable lessons along the way. Rated PG. The Count of Monte Cristo A swashbuckling tale of revenge starring Guy Pearce and Jim Caviezel. I heard somebody call this 'The Count of Monte Crisco' and almost lost it. Rated PG-13. The Time Machine Guy Pearce stars as a time traveler who goes int the future to save the human race. This got lots of bad reviews but looked very cool. It can't be that bad for a buck. Rated PG-13.
