Speed humps on the way to Golf View By JOHN
MUNFORD
Relief is already underway for exasperated residents on Golf View Drive who want to slow down traffic in the area. City employees began installing a series of traffic calming devices Wednesday on the thoroughfare, which is a collector road that wasn't originally designed that way. The most significant change will be the addition of two sets of speed humps which will be on Golf View between Pinemount Drive and Bluesmoke Trail. The humps, which carry vehicles three inches off the ground for 14 feet, will span one lane at a time. Motorists will be warned of the humps with signs asking them to slow to 20 mph. Also, "Do Not Pass" signs are planned for the road which will be enforced by the Peachtree City Police Department. Area residents rallied for changes to the road by appearing at the City Council retreat and other meetings asking for help, claiming that speeding traffic caused a significant safety hazard. The project also includes the addition of two sets of three-way stop signs on the western side of Golfview Drive at the intersections of Golfview and Aberdeen Parkway. Other streets in the city will be evaluated for the possible addition of traffic calming devices including Bluesmoke Trail, Bridlepath Lane, Crabapple Lane West, Hip Pocket Road, Kelly Green, Pinegate Road, Planterra Way, Smokerise Trace/Point, Sumner Road, Terrane Ridge, Willow Road, Walnut Grove Road, and Wynnmeade Parkway. Any plan developed by the city for those streets must be approved by residents in the area, who will also share the costs for installing the traffic calming devices. "This is an important public safety issue, and we want to make it clear to drivers that we will not tolerate speeding in residential neighborhoods," said Mayor Steve Brown.
