CCSU alumni announce brick campaign

Clayton State Alumni Association President Thomas George of Sharpsburg, in conjunction with the University's 32nd Annual Commencement ceremonies, has announced a new fund raising campaign. While all parts of the plan have yet to be ironed out, it can be unequivocally stated that the new campaign is set in brick.

In speaking to the members of the class of 2002 at the University's May 4 graduation ceremonies, George announced that the Alumni Association's 2002 Commemorative Brick Campaign... "A Pathway for Tomorrow - A Legacy for Today" was kicking off to benefit both the Alumni Association and the Clayton College & State University Foundation.

"It's a plan whereby both groups benefit, and, in turn, help the University," he says.

Starting immediately, for a gift of $50 or more, Clayton State alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends may purchase a brick engraved (in the case of Clayton State graduates) with the individual's name, degree and year of graduation. Brick orders will be accumulated and the bricks will be used to resurface the walkways between the Business & Health Sciences Building, the Student Center and the Library. All of these walkways date back to the University's 1969 founding, and all have recently taken a beating in conjunction with the construction work on the new, $19 million University Center.

From Jan. 1, 2003 onward, the Brick Campaign will sell the bricks for $100 or more. Each semester, graduates will be offered discounted bricks for a limited time. Each brick measures 4" x 8" x 2 *" and will be a shade of reddish-brown.

For buyers other than Clayton State alumni, including alumni buying bricks with family or friends, any inscription within reason is permitted,

within a limit of three lines and 14 characters per line.
