Justin Holloway, a student athlete at Fayette County High School, was severely injured in an automobile accident Dec. 14. Since then he has been diagnosed with a severe brain injury, has been in a coma and has spent much of his time in the hospital.

After the accident Holloway was life-flighted to Grady Memorial Hospital's trauma unit, where he spent 24 days before being moved to Scottish Rite Hospital for 53 days. He was able to return home for a brief period of time before coming down with pneumonia and having to return to the hospital. Recently he has been able to respond to simple commands and even speak a word or two every now and then.

Since the accident, the community has come together to help the Holloway family with medical costs. There have been pancake breakfasts, car washes, concerts, a "pennies for Justin" campaign in participating schools, and more. Local merchants have donated materials and labor to help make the Holloway home handicap accessible.

The healthcare costs are continuing to rise and will soon top $1 million. Holloway requires 24-hour care and will for some time to come, and he will need a wheelchair-accessible van to transport him to his numerous doctor appointments.

To continue to help the Holloway family, the Fayetteville Masonic Lodge 711 F&AM will have a Chicken Q at the Lodge Saturday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tickets are $5 per plate and all proceeds will help the Holloways.

There will also be a raffle held at the Chicken Q. Tickets are $1; first prize is a 27-inch color TV and second prize is $200. Tickets may be purchased by calling 678-364-0193 or 770-460-0422.

The short term goal of the family is for Justin to be able to attend graduation ceremonies.

Donations may be mailed to Justin Holloway Benefit Fund, c/o Southern Community Bank, 525 N. Jeff Davis Drive, Fayetteville, Ga. 30214. Donations are tax-deductible.
