Wish list

Recent U.S. Census figures show Fayette County rapidly approaching the 100,000 mark in population.

With the county growing every day, it's time for the dining options to expand. Yes, the county has seen Ted's and Famous Fish Company open this spring, but with the county's diverse population, we deserve more options.

Our neighbors to the east in Coweta County are seeing some unusual restaurants open. The county now boasts a Cajun restaurant, and has a chef who used to serve the stars at his restaurant in Beverly Hills. It's time Fayette steps up to the plate (so to speak).

Here's Foodie's wish list, in no particular order:

A French bistro. While French food has been eclipsed in many larger cities by pan-American cuisine and nouvelle cuisine, I think a cute little bistro with warm French bread, escargots and French onion soup would be a great addition.

Another seafood restaurant. While the Famous Fish Company and the Wyndham's Peachtree Grill have filled a niche, it's time for a more affordable, but still upscale seafood restaurant dock in the county. Something like Fishbones in Atlanta would be great.

A genuine pizza place. Fayette is home of the chains, and it's time for a real New York pizzeria to come to town.

A Southern restaurant with a twist. I like some of the things that South City Kitchen and the old Kudzu Cafe do with Southern food. It's traditional, but usually has one or two ingredients that make it totally unique. That concept would be huge in the county.

Krispy Kreme. I know you can purchase these in Kroger, but it's not the same. The total experience is seeing the "Hot Doughnuts Now" sign, and having that wonderful mixture of sugar and grease melt on your tongue.

What about it, foodies? What are your suggestions?
