Brooks will celebrate the 20th annual Brooks Day Festival and Road Race this Saturday. There will constant entertainment, arts and crafts, children's activities and much more.

The day kicks off with the one-mile run at 7:30 a.m. and the 10K race follows at 8 a.m. Race day registration begins at 7 a.m. and awards and drawings for prizes take place at 10 a.m.

The 10K course is TAC-certified and runs along the historic and scenic Mcintosh Trail. The course is well marked and monitored and away from traffic and congestion. There are time "splits" each mile and there are two water stations.

Boy Scout Troop #73 will host a spaghetti dinner the night before the race at Brooks Town Hall. The dinner is free to the race runners and $4 for everybody else. There will be a sports expo at the dinner and the following day Dr. John Ricardi, a local chiropractor, will give adjustments both before and after the race.

The entertainment starts at 10:30 a.m. with the Ramblin Rose Band, which will also perform at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30, 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. The Brooks Elementary School chorus will perform at 11 a.m. and Jordan Wilson will perform at noon.

The New Five cents Band will play at 12:30 p.m. and the Southside Country Strutters will strut their stuff at 2 p.m. Miss Patsy's Georgia Belles will show off their moves at 3 p.m. and the Whitewater Middle School eighth grade chorus will sing at 4 p.m.

Visitors can participate in a number of activities from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. There will be old fashioned games to play, a Winston Cup Series race car to view, BBQ to eat, arts and crafts to peruse and, new to the festival, the War Between the States Living History Camp. Uniformed solidiers will perform interactive demonstrations including manual of arms, firing and drilling throughout the weekend.

The evening will close with the Dance in the Park featuring the Allen Goodman Band from 7:30-11:30 p.m. Admission is $2 for ages 12 and up and children under the age of 12 are admitted for free.
