Students learn about service academies The military liaison for U.S. Rep. Mac Collins, Chuck Hunsaker, hosted representatives of the four U.S. service academies last week at the Fayette County Library in Fayetteville. High school students from the area were invited to speak personally with academy representatives and learn the rules and regulations of applying for entrance. Hunsaker said that all applications must be submitted to Collins' office by Oct. 15 at 5:30 p.m. to be considered for the next year. Applications will be examined by a 12-member review board and those selected will be invited to appear before the board. Hunsaker suggested that each student apply to more than one academy, and the best time to begin the process is the second semester of the student's junior year. Getting nominations from a senator or congressman is important, he added. For more information, visit www.house.gov/maccollins or e-mail chuck.hunsaker@mail.house.gov.
