Participants needed for run/walk event to raise funds to help victims of domestic violence

Participants and volunteers are being sought for a run/walk fund-raiser that will benefit the Fayette County Council on Domestic Violence.

The event, which will be held on the cart path system in Peachtree City, is scheduled for Saturday, May 18, with registration beginning at 8 a.m at the Peachtree City Recreation Department.

Walkers are asked to seek donations from friends and co-workers along with civic and church groups for their participation. The funds raised are used to support the council's work in Fayette County, which includes court advocacy for victims and a transitional house for up to five women and their children who have escaped their abusers.

In a typical month, just a $50 donation would fund counseling for women and children; $100 would cover skill training and development for women to gain independence from abusers; $200 could pay for home repairs; $500 could pay for utilities; $1,500 could pay for a temporary protective order for one victim of domestic abuse.

Volunteers are needed to register walkers, staff checkpoints and provide refreshments.

Participants may register the day of the walk. For information, call 770-460-1604.
