Retired teachers honor DeCotis

Members of the Fayette County Retired Educators Association (FCREA) have awarded Fayette County School Superintendent John DeCotis the Outstanding Educator Award in recognition of exceptional service to the education profession.

DeCotis was presented with the award at a recent meeting of the association which is a local unit of the Georgia Retired Educators Association.

"When it came time for us to choose who would receive this year's award, everyone said Dr. DeCotis," said President Carol Lunsford. "All of us are from Fayette County and have worked for him either as a principal or superintendent. He was just a natural choice."

FCREA is a service organization that works to foster communication between retirees, provides updates on legislation concerning all retirees, develops plans for community services and keeps updated on local events affecting all retirees. The association also works to foster education in the county by awarding a scholarship each year to a deserving graduating high school senior in Fayette who plans to enter the education profession.

Retired educators from any school system are eligible for membership in FCREA. For more information about the association, contact Lunsford, 770-461-8553, Joyce Edmondson, 770-461-7452 or Alice Mallory, 770-461-7258.
