A local man who pled guilty to charges after "buzzing" the local Kiwanis Fair in September is in trouble with the law again.

This time, detectives say Andrew Waits, 22, assaulted his girlfriend at his home. Waits was booked into the Fayette County Jail Monday on charges of simple assault and simple battery, according to Sgt. Renee James of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department.

The incident occurred Sunday at Waits' home. James said she believed the dispute erupted from an attempt by the victim to break up with Waits.

Waits previously pled guilty to two counts of unlawful flight of an aircraft. According to police, he was the flight instructor in charge of a small plane that flew low over the fairgrounds two weeks after large commercial jetliners were used by terrorists in the Sept. 11 attacks on New York and Washington, D.C.

In January, Waits was sentenced to 30 days in jail followed by two years probation. State Court Judge Fletcher Sams also ordered Waits to pay a $2,000 fine, serve 100 hours community service, surrender his pilot's license and submit an essay to the court about the responsibilities of flight instructors both before and after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11.
