County develops emergency plan to deal with federal warnings
By JOHN

Fayette County officials are putting the final touches on an emergency plan that will put them more in line with recently adopted federal standards. Fire and Emergency Services director and chief Jack Krakeel told the County Commission Thursday that he had recently met with state officials to discuss the plan. "The federal government has developed a warning system with different colors for different levels of warning. But there really is no set response for each of the colors," he said. Krakeel explained the state has developed a plan, and county officials have developed a similar plan that limits access to government facilities and actually clears the facilities when the warning system is ratcheted up to its highest level. He added the county is still working on plans for the individual county departments and would brief the board as the plans are developed. Commission chairman Greg Dunn thanked Krakeel and his department for his work and said the folks at the Georgia Emergency Management Association are always complimentary of the county's efforts.
