The Development Authority of Peachtree City will meet in a workshop Saturday morning to evaluate its economic development efforts and how they can be enhanced.

The authority, which was criticized earlier this year by Mayor Steve Brown for not focusing more on economic development, actually began planning the workshop several months before Brown took office.

The workshop will convene at the Wyndham Peachtree Conference Center beginning at 8:30 a.m.

The authority plans to cover a number of different topics, including ways to assist local businesses with expansion plans, focus on foreign investment opportunities and enhance tourism and entertainment efforts.

The authority will also discuss the possibility of seeking funds for projects to enhance the commercial corridor forming on Ga. Highway 54 West. A list of projects for that area identified by the city in its Liveable Centers Initiative study include:

A cart path bridge parallel to the railroad bridge on Hwy. 54, which would be linked to tunnels under the bridge in a unique cloverleaf design;

A cart path tunnel under Huddleston Road near the railroad bridge;

A cart path tunnel under Hwy. 74 to connect the Marketplace and Westpark Walk retail developments; and

A cart path tunnel under Hwy. 74 at Paschal Road.

A secondary road system which would run parallel to Hwy. 54 West to the north and south. The northern road would begin around MacDuff Parkway and eventually tail through to hook up with Hwy. 54 at Huddleston Road through what is currently property occupied by Line Creek Baptist Church. The southern access road, which would start at Line Creek Parkway, would eventually connect to Planterra Way. Several roundabout intersections are planned to calm traffic going through the Planterra Ridge subdivision.
