A Day of Celebration Bridges Community and School

Bringing school and community together is the goal of North Fayette Elementary's first Community Day celebration..

Scheduled for May 18 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on the campus of North Fayette, school officials are planning an event that will have something for everyone from medical screenings and sports clinics/demonstrations to arts and crafts and entertainment. Local businesses and organizations are being invited to setup booths to showcase their products and services.

Currently the school is in the process of recruiting business and organizations to host booths at the celebration. Local business owners who are interested in renting a booth or sharing information about their company/organization can contact the school at 770-460-3570 or e-mail publicity chairman Chrishirella Warthen at warthen.chrishirella@fcboe.org by April 18.

Volunteers are also needed to help with the event. Anyone interested in donating their time or services can contact planning committee chairperson Barnetta Sanford at sanford.barnetta@fcboe.org by April 18 as well.

Community Day is open to all parents and citizens. According to Warthen, who also teaches at the school, the sole objective of event is to bring North Fayette Elementary and the community together for the purpose of fostering a relationship that will nurture the school's students. By bringing the community onto the school's campus, school officials hope to open doors for future volunteers to become involved in the education and development of its students.

"This type of event will allow us to identify resources that both the school and community can ultimately benefit from. Our guests will include businesses, churches, city officials, citizens and all who are vital to the growth and development of Fayette County," said school principal Louis Robinson.

Although this will mark the first year that North Fayette has hosted a community celebration, the school hopes to make it an annual event.
