Tyrone considers development moratorium
By JOHN
THOMPSON
Tyrone's leaders are expected to call for a moratorium on its newest zoning category tonight. Town Manager Barry Amos said the limited use residential category replaces the old PUD zoning, which the Town Council eliminated. But in eliminating the category, the town will have to agree to take in the John Wieland Southhampton subdivision as part of the limited use district. "We discovered that we couldn't issue permits for swimming pools and accessory buildings for a zoning category that didn't exist," he said. After the town approves Wieland in the new category, it will then have to establish a moratorium on building in the category. The reason? One of the requirements for limited use residential is that it be served by a municipally-owned sewer system. Tyrone's new sewer system is out of capacity, so... "Nobody can use this zoning category," he said. The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m.
