PTC Council OKs funds for design plans on 54 West

The Peachtree City Council has committed to pay for half of a projected $25,000 study to create design standards for the commercial areas along Ga. Highway 54 West.

City officials hope the other half will come from the Atlanta Regional Commission through its Liveable Centers Initiative program, which the city participates in.

City Planner David Rast said the grant would be an offshoot of the work currently being done by the city's overlay district committee. The goal is to create design standards for the area and enhance the landscaping in the area, he added.

The overlay district committee is working with RAM Development, the major landowner in the area, on developing plans for how the buildings will fit into the area, which includes the under-construction Wal-Mart Supercenter and Home Depot along with more residential development coming in the future with the 350-home Centennial subdivision off MacDuff Parkway.

Road improvements are underway in the area to offset the expected traffic increase due to Home Depot and Wal-Mart. RAM is also involved with those projects and is therefore paying for the road improvements.
