Local leaders sign up for Perdue campaign Georgia Republican gubernatorial candidate Sonny Perdue has released the names of his campaign team, having organized in each of the state's 159 counties. Bill Bonner and Josh Bonner are serving as 3rd District chairs, according to Perdue's office. Bill Bonner is a former Fayette County commissioner and a former candidate for the General Assembly. Chris Clark is heading up Perdue's campaign in Fayette County, according to a statement by Perdue's campaign headquarters. "It is unprecedented for a campaign to have reached this goal so early on," said Perdue campaign manager Scott Rials of the organization in every county. "There is a grassroots revolution brewing across the state working hard to send Roy Barnes packing and bring Sonny's new, open and responsive leadership to the Governor's office." The campaign predicts "a victory of democracy and citizen involvement over big money and big government," saying that Gov. Barnes "has apparently decided not to bother with courting grassroots support during the campaign." "Roy Barnes has spent his time putting the squeeze on big-money donors, hoping he can buy the votes of Georgians with slick TV ads," Rials said. "He has ignored grassroots organization as he ignored the people of Georgia and their views for the past four years. He is about to learn a vital lesson about Democracy: it is people not dollars that count." Rials also announced that Perdue's campaign now has more than 500 Steering Committee members and over 2,500 registered volunteers across the state.
