A Fayetteville man led Peachtree City Police on a brief chase early Sunday morning after an officer spotted him driving recklessly on a motorcycle.

John S. Vlasis II, 18, wrecked on south Peachtree Parkway near the Braelinn Golf Club but escaped capture by disappearing into a wooded area , said Maj. Mike DuPree of the Peachtree City Police Department. Vlasis later turned himself in to officers, DuPree added.

Vlasis reached speeds over 75 mph on south Peachtree Parkway during the pursuit, according to warrants. The posted speed limit on that stretch of road is 40 mph.

The pursuit began when one officer spotted Vlasis driving erratically and radioed the information to another officer, DuPree said. After he wrecked, Vlasis tried to pick up the motorcycle and flee again, but was unable to, DuPree added.

Vlasis is charged with reckless driving, fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to maintain lane, criminal trespassing, passing in a no passing zone and driving a motorcycle without a license.

According to warrants, Vlasis damaged a homeowner's fence while trying to climb it as he got away.
