Councilman calls it quits By JOHN
THOMPSON
The city of Fairburn found itself short one councilman this week. City attorney Brad Sears said Councilman Gene Wiggins submitted his letter of resignation April 15. While Wiggins did nor provide a reason in his letter, Sears understands that Wiggins has moved out of the jurisdiction, which would require him to resign. Sears is currently evaluating the state law governing special elections. Since there are no city elections this year, the attorney said there are four dates the city can call for a special election. Until the election is held, Wiggins' seat remains vacant, he added. In other Fairburn personnel news, city clerk Nancy Faulkner said the city has received nearly 25 applications for the city manager's position. Former city manager Tony Cox left his position last week, and city officials have posted a job description on the Georgia Municipal Association Web page and the International City Manager Association's Web page. Faulkner said the city plans to continue taking applications until the end of April and then start sifting through the applications to find a new city manager.
