Oak Grove Hosts First Market Day For the first time this year, all third graders in the Fayette County School System participated in a program called Mini Society, which teaches students about entrepreneurship and the ebb and flow of economics. The project begins as students within a school form their own society by collectively voting on a name, currency and flag. Each classroom has its own community where every student has a paying job. Once students began earning money, they branch out on their own to become entrepreneurs. Students design prototypes of their product or service and conduct market research to see if there is a need for what they want to sell as well as what price the community will be willing to pay for it. Any supplies that are used must be purchased with money students have earned by working their community jobs. At the culmination of the project, students participate in a Mini Society Market Day where they sell their wares to others within the school. Oak Grove Elementary, where the third grade community was known as Waterfall City, recently hosted its Market Day which was well attended by parents and teachers.
