Sports/entertainment authority is topic for PTC Council Thursday

The push to create a separate "sports and entertainment" authority in Peachtree City will get another airing at Thursday night's City Council meeting.

In January, Mayor Steve Brown suggested that such an authority could operate the city's amphitheater and tennis center, a task currently undertaken by the Development Authority of Peachtree City.

A host of tennis center patrons opposed the plan, along with Development Authority officials and local business leaders. But Brown argued such a move would allow the Development Authority to focus more on economic development.

Councilwoman Annie McMenamin vehemently opposed the concept at the time and said it would take a lot of information to convince her otherwise.

The concept touched such a nerve with some residents that Brown was urged to postpone any discussion of the concept for several months. Now that the time has passed, the matter is on the agenda for consideration again.
