New school selects Georgia Power By MICHAEL
BOYLAN
Georgia Power won the bid to provide electricity to Sarah Harp Minter Elementary School, as the Fayette County Board of Education Monday passed the measure 3-to-0 with one abstention. Greg Powers abstained from voting because, he said, his company deals with Georgia Power on a regular basis. The school, located on Goza Road in the south-center part of the county, got to choose their service provider because it will use more than the 900 kilowatt threshold. Facilities Services received bids from Coweta Fayette EMC and Georgia Power and elected to go with the latter. The school board studied previous billings at existing schools to get an idea of what the usage and cost would be each month. Georgia Power will also be the service provider for the new high school. Much like the South Complex, Minter Elementary and the new high school at the Goza Road complex will eventually share the same meter. Schools in the South Complex also use Georgia Power as their service provider. In a previous meeting the board decided that Coweta Fayette EMC will provide the service for Cleveland Elementary School on Lester Road on Fayetteville's west side.
