Ben J. Miller, chief judge of the Griffin Judicial Circuit, has announced his plans to retire at the end of this year.

Miller, who has been on the Superior Court bench since July 1, 1977, is one of four judges who serves Fayette, Spalding, Pike and Upson counties. Before that, Miller served as District Attorney for the circuit when he was appointed July 1, 1969.

In a statement released to the media, Miller said he wants to thank the public for its support and "the honor and privilege of serving them."

"I look forward to spending more time with my family, especially our grandchildren," Miller wrote. "My sincere thanks for all the support that you have shown me over these many years."

Miller will become a Senior Judge, meaning he can remain active as a jurist by filling in for judges all over Georgia.
