Local GOP getting busy

William Coit, candidate for the new Congressional seat created with redistricting, spoke to a crowded room of Republicans and guests at the First Saturday Breakfast. Coit faces challenger Clay Cox for the 13th District seat.

The Republican Party has scheduled a full slate of candidate presentations which are open to the general public. Coit and Congressman Mac Collins spoke at the First Saturday Breakfast. Fayette County Commission Chairman Greg Dunn announced his intentions to run for re-election and State Representative Kathy Cox gave an update on redistricting.

Upcoming Republican-sponsored meetings will include:

Monday, April 22: Al Bartell, candidate for lieutenant governor, and Clay Cox, 13th Congressional District candidate, 7 p.m. at El Parian Mexican Restaurant in Fayetteville.

Saturday, June 1: Bill Byrne, Cobb County Commission chairman and candidate for governor, International House of Pancakes in Fayetteville.

Saturday, July 13: Steve Stancil, candidate for Lt. Governor, International House of Pancakes in Fayetteville.

Additionally, the Fayette Republican Party has teamed up with the Coweta Republican Party to host a series of three candidate forums at the Special Events Center of Newnan, 299 Bullsboro Drive, beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Saturday, April 20: U.S. Rep. Saxby Chambliss and state Rep. Bob Irvin, both running for U.S. Senate.

Saturday, May 18: Bill Byrne, Sonny Perdue, and Linda Schrenko, all running for governor.

Saturday, June 15: Al Bartell, Mike Beatty, and Steve Stancil, all running for lieutenant governor.
