Delay in construction of hangar area at Falcon Field could cost contractor By JOHN
MUNFORD
The construction of taxiways and concrete pads for new hangars at Falcon Field is essentially complete, though almost a full month behind schedule. Because the project was 29 days late, the contractor, Cline Service Corporation, will have to pay up to $21,750 in liquidated damages. That figure hasn't been finalized as airport officials await a letter from Cline representatives indicating why the construction was delayed. At Wednesday night's regular meeting of the Airport Authority, Airport Manager Jim Savage said the contractor "did not present any extenuating circumstances that we believe would warrant a time extension" at a meeting last week. Cline was originally given five months to complete the project, which was to have been completed March 6. The final completion date was determined to be April 4, Savage noted. The new hangar area has been designated for commercial use, with the authority charging higher lease rates there to make sure the six hangar sites aren't used for aircraft storage. The authority is trying to attract corporate jet operations to locate there in addition to maintenance operators.
