Scouts storm the fairgrounds

Coweta District Scout Camp O'Ree has a weekend full of activities for the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts at the New Coweta Fairgrounds on Pine Road. Today, the Boy Scouts of Coweta will be arriving to pitch their tents and tomorrow the opening of the District Scout Show will begin with a special ceremony at 9:45 a.m. and close at 4 p.m.

Later in the day, the Cub Scouts will host the District Pinewood Derby.

"The District Pinewood Derby is a high point in a Cub Scout's life," said publicity chairman Verna Funk. "If a boy joins scouts this is one event that they look forward to the all year. The pack race and eliminate and judge the best within, before a derby car goes to district."

Various outside businesses will be on hand to help the scouts display what scouts do best. Home Depot is sponsoring Pack 42's derby displays.

"Go Kart World will show some new models and Karats Hot Rod Club from Palmetto will be on hand, as well as some restored military vehicles," said Scout Show Chairman Terry Sanders.

Boys entering the first grade in the fall are able to come join scouts and participate in the camp. Any boy from first grade through high school, can enter scouts.

"After your sports activity, come see what scouts do best," Funk adds. "The evening will be more exciting for those that stick around to see some of the activities that the older boys participate in."
