Jewell hired as Senoia's newest cop By JOHN
THOMPSON
Senoia's newest policeman may look familiar to many residents. Mayor Dianne Cleveland confirmed this week that Richard Jewell has been hired as a patrolman for the city. Jewell came to fame during the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta when some media outlets tried to cast him as a suspect in the Centennial Olympic park bombing. Since then, Jewell has received settlements from some news organizations who were quick to judge and has started putting his life back together. Cleveland said the hire was done administratively and did not require a vote of the City Council. "He comes very highly recommended from his jobs in Luthersville and Jefferson," the mayor said. She added that Jewell is now married and lives in the area. As part of his hiring, the city agreed he would not be subjected to any interviews from the local media.
