Health affects from de-icing spill topic of community forum A community public forum on the health affects from the spill of de-icing fluids into the Flint River will be presented Wednesday, April 24, at 7 p.m. at the Peachtree City Library. The forum will have a special focus on the health affects on pregnant and nursing mothers. The spill, which occurred in January at Hartsfield International Airport, was indirectly linked to odd-smelling water reported by many south Fayette County residents. Although state environmental officials were originally told the spill was relatively small, investigations revealed it reached between 30,000 and 50,000 gallons. The Fayette County Water System shut down its south treatment plant as a precaution until the problem could be abated. The forum is presented by the Southeast Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Unit of the Emory University School of Public Health. The speaker will be Dr. Howard Frumkin, professor and chair of Emory's Department of Environmental and Occupational Health. The meeting will be held in one of the library's meeting rooms located on the lower level.
