Students raise money for habitat Students at Huddleston Elementary School love their animals and it shows. For the last 10 years, students have participated in an enrichment fundraiser to support the certified National Wildlife Habitat that was started at the school in 1991 with a grant from the Georgia Wildlife Federation. This year students raised $2,404 for the habitat through the sale of environmental T-shirts and related items. Since the habitat was created, the fundraiser has totally supported its upkeep and enhancement including funding five Eagle Scout projects that resulted in the addition of a storage shed, fence, pond, picnic tables and a raised garden bed. Money raised has also funded the installation of a door and window from a classroom into the habitat so students can care for the plants and animals. Additionally, the fundraiser has enabled enrichment teachers to purchase books and software learning games as well as garden items, plants and animal food. Awards were given this year to recognize those students who put forth a tremendous effort and initiative to earn money to support Huddleston's habitat and extra enrichment needs. Sheldon Stronach took first place, Geoff Burnside and Ariel Luke tied for second and Ryan Harmon took third. The first-third place winners received trophies. All students selling over $150 were awarded a medal.
