Fayette educator receives national recognition

For multiple years in a row, a Fayette teacher has received recognition for outstanding performance in reading education.

Renaissance Learning, Inc. has awarded Mary Ann Babb of Peachtree City Elementary the Reading Renaissance Model Classroom Recertification. Model Classroom certification indicates that Babb's efforts to adopt Reading Renaissance methods have continued to result in measurable increases in student reading performance.

"Mary Ann Babb's continuing commitment to reading and reading practice translates into success for every child," Renaissance Learning President Don Peek said in making the award.

To receive Reading Renaissance Model certification, teachers must demonstrate that their students receive a minimum of 60 minutes of reading practice time daily. In addition, teachers must be actively working with individual students to meet Renaissance recommended standards for reading achievement. Educators become eligible for Model Classroom recertification after they have maintained certification for one full year.

In addition to national recognition, Peachtree City Elementary will receive a certificate in honor of Babb's class-wide achievement.

Renaissance Learning, Inc. is a leading provider of school improvement programs through research-based software products, teacher training and consulting. The company's software products, called learning information systems, give students and teachers continuous constructive feedback that helps motivate students, dramatically accelerates learning, improves test scores and helps students master all standards while reducing teacher paperwork.
