Chairman thanks community for SPLOST support Coweta County voters turned out in historically heavy numbers on March 19 and overwhelmingly approved both the Special Local Option Sales Tax and Senior Citizen Homestead Exemption issues for our community. 72 percent of Coweta County voters approved the renewal of the one-cent sales tax, winning in every precinct in Coweta County. That would not have happened if this community didn't support what is best for our children and young people. In particular, parents and other citizens organized as the Coweta County SPLOST/ELOST Campaign Committee and committed countless hours to informing themselves and their fellow citizens about SPLOST. Already strongly committed and involved in their own children's education, they went beyond that to show commitment to all the young people in this county. Their hard work means that those citizens and many, many others have an even stronger stake in the quality of our school system. The people of this community have always supported education and what is best for children. The strong support of SPLOST means that we can continue to provide a high-quality education despite our high rates of growth, and we as a Board of Education can focus even more on the academic growth of our community's children. As long as I have been privileged to serve on the Board of Education, I have been acutely aware of the pride and sense of community that exists in Coweta County. On behalf of the board, I would like to thank everyone for your hard work and support, knowing that you will remain involved in the continuing task of improving educational opportunities for everyone in Coweta County. William Covington Chairman, Coweta County Board of Education
