County, 21st Century may work together

Could Coweta County and 21st Century Coweta be patching up their differences?

Next Tuesday, the County Commission is expected to consider a proposal to allow two members of 21st Century Coweta on the county's development board, while two representatives from Coweta County would be involved with 21st Century Coweta's efforts at luring industry to the county.

County administrator Theron Gay said the issue arose after the Coweta County Economic Development Advisory Committee voted to allow two 21st Century Coweta members on the county's board this week.

Last year, the split grew so big between the county and 21st Century that county officials set aside $275,000 to start their own development agency.

The commission unanimously approved the concept of hiring a staff member to head up the county's economic development office and is expected to announce the new hire at Tuesday's meeting.

In the past, the commission has said the new person would report to County Administrator Theron Gay.

The county already has Buddy Harrison in place, who markets the Shenandoah Industrial Park.
